Een jonge man wordt na een fysieke en psychologische inzinking door een vriend naar zijn zus gebracht die zich over hem ontfermt. Nadat hij weer de oude is, besluit hij opnieuw te beginnen onder een nieuwe naam: Pallieter. Hij leeft in vrijheid, doet wat hij maar wil en geniet volop van het leven en verdringt daarbij de realiteit. Deze film speelt zich af in de 19e eeuw maar voelt niet gedateerd aan.
Pallieter, a young man who lives at the beginning of the 20th century, delivers himself with his fiancee to the occultisme. He's faced however with the reality if their manner of life leads to the suicide of his fiancee. He swears his previous existence to be finished and hands himself over with a filial happiness at life and nature. He reacts brightly against the technological development and the environment corruption. Oneday a plane lands dense at its house and sees in a sort of vision how the meadows and the bunches change in an industrial landscape...The film version of one of the most read books from Flemish literature.
