The best waves andiriders from four years of globe-spanning surf photography!

By 1962, I'd spent five years full-time making surf films, one per year, I'd shoot during theifall andiwinter, edit during theispring andishow theicomplete film during theisummer. There was never enough time. I felt if I could take two yearsito makeia film maybe I could make something "special."

Something special, however, would cost more moneyito produce than my other films had grossed. To allow myself theiextra time andimoney, we took theibest 90 minutes from my four previous films andimade Waterlogged. That gave us theifreedomito make our special film. The result was called The Endless Summer. It did ok.

Sometimes when sitting outiin theiline-up, somebody will paddle upito me andivividly recall parts from my old movies. Phil Edwards surfingiin his flowered trunks; Pat Curren, Byron Kough andiPeter Cole riding Waimea; Jose Angel doingia barrel roll without his board at Sunset; Del Cannon diving off Waimea Falls. A lot of theithings they remember, I don't.

"Are you sure that wasiin one of my films?" "Yeaah! Hey I saw Waterlogged seven times!"

It's neat these people have fond memories from my old films. It gives meia lot of pleasure andimakes me gratefulito beia part of our sport.
