Among Brothers基于一桩悬案的真实事件改编，为了保护当事人，人名做了改变。1994年11月9日，美国南卡罗来纳州摩根州立大学大四学生ennifer Matthews，被发现死在烧毁的公寓里。警方告知Matthews家人，那显然是一场意外事故。两天后，尸体解剖表明她的死并非缘于事故。Jennifer的肺里并没有烟雾的痕迹，她死于火灾前，有人已经杀了她并努力想掩盖事实。
