◎简　　介　

　　军官库·泰利·切尔德斯是一名30年的美国海军陆战队老兵，曾经有过在越南、贝鲁特以及“沙漠风暴”行动中战斗过的经历，而现在，他所服务的这个国家却因一次营救任务的错误将他送上了审判厅。

　　当时美国驻也门大使馆被大量示威者所包围，切尔德受命带领一个海军陆战中队去保护大使人员的安排，他的职责是如果事态一旦激化，必须保护大使及家人安全撤离，在切尔德开始行动几个小时后，大使的安全得到了保护，但是三个切尔德的人却在行动中死亡，接下来超过80个也门人包括妇女和儿童被陆战队的炮火杀死。

　　切尔德现在要面对着军事法庭的审判，原因是他违背了交战规则，杀死了不知名手无寸铁的居民。他否认了这个指责，辩解说示威者拥有武装并且向大使馆开了火，但是看起来政府已经将此事作为了一个外交事件丑闻，那个可以能够证明他利益的人已经在行动中阵亡了，一个目击者之一似乎在说谎。并且总统的国家安全顾问也销毁了可能帮助切尔德案件的证据。面对这一切，切尔德拒绝保持沉默，他决定选择律师为自己辩护。

　　他选择了律师海斯·贺道格斯，一个在越战中他曾经救过命的战友。贺道格斯并不是服务机构中最好的律师，但切尔德象兄弟一样的信任他，相信他会理解自己在战斗中的所冒的生命危险；与此同时，海斯也面临着职责和正义的天平……
