　　这是一个发生在英国伦敦的故事，在一个我们并不熟悉的世界里……罗迪·圣詹姆斯是鼠类的佼佼者，一只过着奢华过度的生活的庞物鼠。在主人家位于肯辛顿花园的豪宅里，他拥有一个属于自己的小庄园。然而，这种衣食无忧的快乐很快就被一个不速之客搅乱了，西德是一只顺着下水道水管爬进来的褐家鼠，他非常羡慕罗迪这种养尊处优的大少爷生活，决定赖在这里不走了。西德就是罗迪最瞧不起的那种生活在底层社会里的无赖，所以他想尽办法也要将西德重新赶回下水道。然而，从没经历过世间险恶、天真纯洁的罗迪哪是狡猾的老油条西德的对手？罗迪最终掉进了自己为西德设的陷阱里，在厕所里被冲进了弥漫着恶臭的下水道。
　　罗迪做梦也没想到，地面之下的世界竟然别有洞天，里面有一个他只在电视上才见过的大都市。然而，罗迪此刻最想念的仍然是他那美丽的家和舒服的床，这个从没出过门的小伙子，还没开始找回家的路，就在林林总总的街道上迷路了……好在他遇到了丽塔，一只勇敢强悍的雌鼠，罗迪承诺，只要她能把他送回去，就会给她一大笔钱作为报酬。
　　地下的世界里并不只生活着老鼠，虽然种类不同，大家倒也能和平共处，不过癞蛤蟆陶德是个例外，这个肥胖的老混蛋不知道小时候受过什么样的刺激，非常憎恨像老鼠这种啮齿类动物，他联同自己的表弟弗罗格和两只汉奸鼠斯派克以及怀特尼一起捕杀其他鼠类，他还有一个很变态的癖好，那就是要亲眼看着被他抓到的老鼠在容器中冻成冰块……不幸的是，罗迪和丽塔的名字都被列在了他的捕鼠黑名单上。
　　在丽塔的帮助下，经历了一系列的磨难，罗迪终于重返家园，他发现西德不但顶替了自己的位置，还活得很滋润，而且在经历了这一连串的冒险之后，罗迪也已经喜欢上了那个脏兮兮的下水道，更重要的是，他深深地爱上了丽塔……那么，罗迪会做出什么样的选择呢？是忠于自己的心，还是忠于自己的命运呢？

Roddy is a decidedly upper-crust "society mouse" who lives the life of a
beloved pet in a posh Kensington flat. When a sewer rat named Sid comes
spewing out of the sink and decides he's hit the jackpot, Roddy schemes to rid
himself of the pest by luring him into the "whirlpool." Sid may be an ignorant
slob, but he's no fool, so it is Roddy who winds up being flushed away into
the bustling sewer world of Ratropolis. There Roddy meets Rita, an
enterprising scavenger who works the sewers in her faithful boat, the Jammy
Dodger. Roddy immediately wants out, or rather, up; Rita wants to be paid for
her trouble; and, speaking of trouble, the villainous Toad--who royally
despises all rodents equally, making no distinction between mice and rats--
wants them iced ... literally. The Toad dispatches his two hapless hench-rats,
Spike and Whitey, to get the job done. When they fail, the Toad has no choice
but to send to France for his cousin--that dreaded mercenary,
