◎简　　介　

Karma Entertainment’s Tathastu is inspired from the Nick Cassavetes’ Hollywood film John Q starring Denzel Washington. It is an emotional drama about a father who wants justice for his dying son.

Ravi (Sanjay Dutt), a middle-class man works in an automobile company. His wife Sarita (Ameesha Patel and ten -year-old kid Gaurav (Yash Pathak) are his world. Ravi’s world comes crashing down after his son is diagnosed with a hole in the heart. An immediate heart transplant surgery is required. Ravi is asked to raise Rs. 15 lacs to save his son’s life.

Ravi knocks on every possible door to get financial aid but is turned down from everywhere. With time and options running out, Ravi is left with no choice. He takes the emergency room hostage.

Anubhav Sinha’s director is nothing to rave about. He is letdown by a script that is actually real, but presented very badly. Dialogue is passable. Screenplay (Yash-Vinay) is atrocious.

Sanjay Dutt as the anguished father is mechanical. He goes about his role very disinterestedly. Ameesha Patel fails to make an impact. Jaya Pradha is wasted. Gulshan Grover is his usual self. Darshan Jariwala as the surgeon is competent. Manoj Pahwa and Lalit Tiwari are alright. Ravi Jhankal makes an impression. Anoop Soni is passable.

On the whole, Tathastu is a shoddy affair. It will fail to set the cash registers jingling at the box-office.
