◎简　　介　

The plot, if it can be called such, focuses on Cromartie High School – a place with a well-deserved reputation as the worst school in Tokyo. A place for freaks and outcasts, run entirely by the student body (consisting largely of wannabe Yakuza thugs).

Into the fray comes Takashi Kamiyama (Takamasa Suga), a bright student, who, realizing he is stranded alone, decides to help the entire school by changing the atmosphere and helping them all to succeed in their studies.

This, essentially, is the story but if you’re looking for a compelling plot and neat resolution, then look elsewhere. It is pointless approaching Cromartie for a sense of plot or story, as it’s basically an extended batch of absurd comedy sketches that feel more Monty Python than Japanese manga. Nothing's too strange, too bizarre or too low if it'll draw a laugh. And there are lots of laughs, though many were confused ones.

It may not be to everyone’s taste, and it’s nowhere near as funny as Yamaguchi’s previous effort (Battlefield Baseball) but for those who enjoy their comedy a bit more left-field, Cromartie is a sure, if ultimately empty, thing.
