A film in several episodes with Bijan Daneshmand and Mania Akbari, exposing some of the issues of men and women within the confines of traditionand family lifein Iran. Each episode is devoted to various life situations and displays a different form of male/female interaction. The placing of the actors in a moving vehicle or against a moving back drop signifies the movement of life despite all the obstacles in its way. The film deals with the roots of dependencies, limitations, power struggles and conflict that are the familiar stuff of life of couples in the Middle East.

The winner of the Best Film Cinema Digitale prize at the Venice Film Festival, 20 Fingers is one of the most provocative, courageous and controversial films to emerge from contemporary Iran. Directed and co-starring Mania Akbari (perhaps best known as the "driver" of Kiarostami's Ten), 20 Fingers remains effectively banned from being screened in Iran.

The subject of the film is male-female relationshops. Composed of 7 vignettes, 20 Fingers features Akbari and Bijan Daneshmand as a contemporary Iranian couple. The film is an intense, bumpy series of conversations and sometimes quarrels reflecting the problems facing Iranian men and women and the struggle between modernism and tradition, liberalism and conservatism.

At once wrenching yet uplifting, private yet universal, 20 Fingers reveals a director on the cutting edge of filmmaking, "penetrating a very private and interior space that is not often the one we see on a movie screen" (Dorna Khazeni, Bright Lights Film Journal).
