Pioneering comedy legend Max Linder wrote, produced, directed and starred
in Seven Years Bad Luck, now on DVD complete for the first time since its
1921 release! Hilarious misadventures begin when Max's butler, chasing a
maid, breaks an expensive full-length mirror. The butler persuades the
cook, who somewhat resembles Max, to stand behind the frame and be Max's
reflection. This gag, developed by Max, has become a classic of film and
even television borrowed by everyone from the Marx Brothers to Abbott and
Costello to Red Skeleton. In addition to this feature film, the DVD also
contains 5 short films and an improvised boxing match, included in the
Extras folder, filling another CD.
放眼上世纪初期的电影默片时代，有四位伟大的默片演员是我们不得不提的，buster keaton（巴斯特-基顿，也就是龙威即将推出的dvd套装的主角），查理-卓别林，哈罗德-劳伊德（harold lloyd），以及伟大的max linder。

之所以说他伟大，首先便是因为，在时间上来说，他是四人中最早的一个。他在第一时间对默片时代占据主流的slapstick comedy(胡闹喜剧)做出了巨大的、决定性的贡献，塑造出影史第一个深入人心的喜剧角色“max”，对于后来的几位默片大师也都产生了各自不同的深远影响。

尤其是卓别林，这位最为今天的电影观众所熟悉和尊敬的默片时代喜剧明星，一贯尊称max linder为自己的老师，而对比一下两人的银幕形象，也不难看出其中的细微相似之处。

说回这张《laugh with max linder!》，由1区image公司发行，也是目前为止max linder电影的唯一一张dvd！碟中收录了linder的4部电影短片和1部电影长片《Seven Years Bad Luck》，尤其是在这部65分钟的《七年厄运》中，我们可以看到一段“男仆不慎打破镜子，主人来照镜子，男仆只好站在镜子前面模仿主人一举一动，期望蒙混过关”的经典段落，相信大家从小就在马戏团的表演中看过多次这样的滑稽表演，而它的始作俑者（至少是在大银幕上）正是我们的max linder。（美国的喜剧团体max兄弟也曾在《鸭汤》中表演过相似的段落，不过那比linder已经要落后10多年了）

前有buster，后有max，九区的8月用“默片之月”来称呼是再恰当不过了（尽管两个都还没实际的拿到手），也希望有更多的影迷和碟商来关注默片（尽管知道这几乎不太可能）。
