　　入住新屋后，一家人立刻开始享受这里美好的一切，孩子们在乡间别墅前的花园里游戏，丈夫、妻子、儿子和女儿，跳进游泳池里嬉戏追逐，他们都感受到了从未有过的快乐。可是，他们的美好日子很快就被打破了。
　　先是在屋子里发现了许多前主人留下的古怪照片，接着在一个雨夜，他们又遭到了一个神秘人的骚扰。原来，这坐乡间别墅的前主人戴尔(斯蒂芬·多尔夫)，从监狱里释放出来，他发现自己的房子被陌生人占据后，开始了一系列的报复行动。于是，这个美丽的、梦幻般的别墅，成为了一座寒冷的凛冽庄园，恐怖事件接连不断的发生，库伯一家的生命危在旦夕……

Plot Outline:

Wanting to escape city life for the countryside, New Yorkers Cooper Tilson
(Quaid), his wife Leah (Stone) and their two children move into a dilapidated
old mansion still filled with the possessions of the previous family. Turning
it into their dream house soon becomes a living nightmare when the previous
