一直在东京工作的学，因为生意失败，逃避债务而回到北海道带广的老家。无处可去的学，唯有留在哥哥的家，与担任驯马员的哥哥一起打理马场。在跟哥哥学习驯马的过程中，学开始反思自己的人生和生命的意义…

《向雪许愿》改编自鸣海章的小说《挽马》，以北海道一种传统赛马「挽马」为主题，描写人生的失落与重生。电影由根岸吉太郎执导、伊势谷友介、佐藤浩市和小泉今日子等人主演。电影更在2005年第18届东京国际电影节中创纪录连夺四奖，拿下东京电影节大奖、最佳导演、最佳男主角及观众投票奖。
