    一九七三年三月香港股票狂热，恒生指数高企一千七百七十四点，全城陷入一片疯狂炒股热中。陈德录﹙陆仟饰﹚一家住香港街七十三号，目睹股票由狂升到狂泻的社会众生相。全家做了大闸蟹之外，又有市民为尽早轮到廉租屋，被老千骗去血汗金钱；消防处以防火条例作藉口，胡乱向居民发告票；教育不济，乞丐理论更胜高官。香港问题多，小市民无处发泄，尽在电影中的现实讽刺，一舒心头之恨。《七十三》原是电视受欢迎之处境剧集，由楚原导演改编上银幕，是继《七十二家房客》後又一轰动影坛之作。《香港七十三》是香港电影的里程碑，动员邵氏及香港无线电视旗下艺人倾巢演出，演员数目多如天上繁星。
