这部影片并非1993年大获成功的铁猴子的续集，不过在本片中甄子丹的确扮演了铁猴子这个角色，跟军火走私商周旋并粉碎他们的阴谋。从某种意义上，本片中铁猴子更近似于一个形象符号而非一个真实饱满的人物，而片中主人公其实更接近于青年阿金等一干人。甄子丹在片中虽冠以领衔主演之名，但是出场并不多， 而本片虽然还有周比利和原文庆的出演，但动作场面实在不甚精彩，幸好甄子丹和周比利的数场交手尚可一观，当时甄子丹是被告知袁和平肯定会担任此片的制片或者是动作导演，处于对袁和平的尊敬，才签下片约，然而后来才遗憾地发现，袁和平与这部影片毫无关系。
