在廣告公司工作的佐伯雅行，今年50歲，生活裡充滿了平穩的幸福。原本幾個月後，他將主持獨生女的結婚典禮，完成人生中最大的心願。可是某天，他因為持續目眩與失眠而前往醫院，診斷的結果竟是得到「少年阿茲海默症」。「為什麼是我？……為什麼偏偏是我？」他對天咆哮，卻得不到任何答案。

為了挽留住片刻都在流失的記憶，他拚死命地在所有事物上留下小紙條提醒自己，開始了無奈的搶救記憶大作戰。然而，隨著病情的加重，每天都在見面、相處了許多年的同事臉孔，每天都在拜訪的客戶公司所在，每天都會走過好幾次的熟悉街道，卻漸漸從他的腦海裡消失……….「這裡是哪裡？我要去哪裡？」明明再熟悉也不過的馬路，卻變成了看都沒看過的異地陌生風景。

小紙條滿天飛舞，再也提醒不了任何記憶的空缺，佐伯陷入不知所措的境地。
妻子枝實子決定陪他一起和病痛奮鬥下去。

「妳無所謂嗎？即使我已經不是我……」佐伯問，「甚至我會連跟妳一起攜手走過的人生，統統忘得一乾二淨也無所謂嗎？」枝實子平靜地回答，「有我在，我永遠都會陪在你身邊。我會跟你一起活下去。」

幾個夏天過去了，佐伯的記憶終於消失殆盡，故事的最後，佐伯在夕陽的餘暉中，回頭望見身旁的妻子卻不認得，他問：「妳是誰？叫什麼名字？」然後，微笑著、好心地說，「不要擔心，妳走的這條路沒有錯，我會跟著妳一起走下去。」


【關於萩原浩】
1956年出生，曾任職廣告公司，1997年得到新人賞出道。著有＜好朋友小鳩幫＞、＜白煮蛋＞、＜謠言＞、＜誘拐狂想曲＞、＜母戀旅鳥＞等十餘本小說。其中，＜明日的記憶＞得到第十八屆山本周五郎賞，及第二屆書店大賞的第二名，而且已被改編成電影，由渡邊謙主演，將在2006年5月13日上映。
