◎简 介

The story is set in the times of Post Independence early years of 1950s. This is the time of the princely states when the states were still ruled by the so-called 'Maharajas'. India had just gained Independence in those early years. One needs to see the justice done by each of the actors to his or her role. Karishma looks stunningly beautiful, a real princess that she is. Rekha is unbeaten in her beauty and roles played by her come naturally to her. Rekha has acted well. Manoj Bajpai is all set to give another of his good performances.

The movie has other promising factors to it then just the star cast. Farouq Rattonsey produces it; the excellent Music is by the genious A.R.Rahman, Lyrics by Javed Akhtar Sahib, Story given by Khalid Mohammed and Cinematography by Rajan Kothari.

As with any film soundtrack graced by the wizardry of A.R. Rahman or by the magical pen of lyricist Javed Akhtar, Zubeidaa doesn't fail to deliver. The eight track film score features the world famous talents of Lata Mangeshkar, Sukhvinder Singh, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and newcomer Richa Sharma (The genius Rahman came up with a breathtaking Classical composition using her vocal chords).

A.R. Rahman's style has been championed in the subcontinent for many years and now with collaborations amongst artists like David Byrne, Michael Jackson, Zakir Hussain, Talvin Singh and Andrew Lloyd Webber, he has been elevated to an almost iconic status. What he touches, seemingly turns to gold. With Zubeidaa he manages to deliver a soundtrack of biblical proportions and the album seems destined to become a massive commercial success.

The caressing vocals of Kavita Krishnamurthy on Dheeme Dheeme allow Rahman's classic style of soft, yet dominating string and harmony to come together with touching subtlety. It's so easy to fall into a relaxed state of being with the lush grooves and romance of the whole musical piece. A.R. Rahman allows the singers voices to soar to heights even they may have thought unreachable.

'Main Albeli' sung by 'Kavita Krishnamurthy' has a blend of East & West brilliantly mixed by the Mega-Composer. Full marks to Kavita rendering this number so skillfully.

'Mehndi Hai Rachnewali' by Alka Yagnik is bedded on a synthesis of soft yet pulsating clapping and choruses, with Alka's searing vocals taking flight.

'So Gaye Hain' finds the nightingale of Indian music, Lata Mangeshkar, in a haunting and emotionally charged mood, surrounded by some dulcet virtuoso percussion solos, both electric and acoustic.

Keeping the natural sounds of India intact, Rahman, demonstrates just how his elaborate picture slowly evolves around the bona fide soundscapes. With this devotional historical creed and culture, the music brims over the surface of the music genre he himself has created. While his ingenuity comes through the techno-loops and his contemporary visions, he somehow always manages to embrace you with an almost tangible sense of warmth. With his innovative use of taal and technology in perfect union, Zubeidaa is a million selling, award-winning blockbuster in the waiting.

And who wants to miss a movie directed by Shyam Benegal, the director of Ankur, Bhumika, Manthan, Junoon, Mandi, Kalyug, Mammo and Sardari Begum. Do you want to miss it? Well it's your choice.

Release Notes: To our surprise FiNaLe did a pre of this a long time
back. Nice to see a mainstream XviD grp taking a stroll into Bollywood.
    Just wish more groups did
