　　1926年秋，著名歌星宋丹平(张国荣饰)主演的歌剧倾倒了成千上万女歌迷，但他唯独钟情清纯可爱的杜云嫣(吴倩莲饰)，两人热烈地坠入爱河，爱得如胶似漆。云嫣的父亲闻讯后勃然大怒，将云嫣禁闭在家，并将她许配给豪门显贵。云嫣却在订婚夜宴上装病离席，私会丹平。权贵公子妒火中烧，派人毒打丹平，并放火焚毁了剧院。云嫣坚信丹平未死，装疯卖傻。每逢月圆之夜，她都会在剧院的废墟上聆听到一曲从虚无缥渺中传来的爱歌。
　　十年后，一个小剧团租用了这个闹鬼的破剧院。青年演员韦青(黄磊饰)遇到鬼魅一般的丹平，于是又引发一场感人至深的爱情悲剧……

    In 1936 China, a nearly bankrupt drama troupe starts performing in a burned-out
