加密功能，对于诸多电脑用户来说，早已是最为重要的需求之一。通常我们都采用zip或者rar压缩加密功能，然而当资料文件多而且有繁杂的时候，压缩加密已经不再适合了，再有压缩解压产生的临时文件常常残留泄密危险。

也有人选择启用Windows用户加密：加密操作很容易，只需要在NTFS分录目录属性勾选就可以了，但却有一个致命的弱点，一旦重装系统，使用相同的用户名和密码却再也无法进入加密目录，很多人因此遭受不少损失。

TrueCrypt非常容易在大多数装置上加密，包括隔离区域、硬盘、USB即插盘以及别的储存装置。当你设置完毕后必须设定一个密码，这样你就可以建立加密区。这是唯一你知道的密码，任何你想加密的都可以进行。最大的好处是你可以从加密区运行程序，唯一的要求是只要你的硬盘和储存装置上有多余的空间。

TrueCrypt支持多样化的加密算法，包括AES-256、Blowfish(448-bit key)、CAST5、Serpent、Triple DES和Twofish，其它的功能包括FAT32或者NTFS格式的支持，隐藏卷，用于配置/解除配置的热键以及更多功能。
