After defeating the Hittites in the famous battle of Qadesh, he granted Egypt a long period of welfare and prosperity. There are also many historical reports which consider Ramses the pharaoh who tried to prevent Moses from his exodus from Egypt. During his reign some of the most beautiful and huge monuments of the ancient Egypt were built, first among all Abu Simbel.

Akhenaton, the heretic pharaoh, lived in a period ruled by polytheism. With his revolutionary "mystic" vision he upset rites and traditions kept for century in Egypt and introduced the worship of a sole God, Aton. Such religious revolution, which upset rules set up thousands years before, had a strong opponent in the priests who finally killed the pharaoh and his wonderful wife Nefertiti.
