背景：1985年，Michael Jackson做了一件國際性慈善壯舉，有見當時非洲正鬧飢荒，數以萬計的兒童正受到飢荒之威脅，故此Michael Jackson作為發起人呼籲美國歌手一起灌錄歌曲【We Are The World】。當然這成為全球大熱及為非洲兒童籌得四千萬美元。在80年代中期，可算是Michael Jackson的黃金時期，他的唱片賣個滿堂紅，他的演唱會是史上樂迷最渴求之活動，他的名氣亦能使眾多美國歌星如Richard Marx，Lional Richard，Whitney Houston等相繼加入【We Are The World】賑災活動。
