Although LSD eventually became a drug used by those looking for the ultimate trip, it was actually discovered in 1943 by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann and promoted early on as a cure for alcoholism and drug addiction. It was also used in an attempt to fill the informational voids left by mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
