◎简　　介　

一家马戏团进入城市后宣布了一个惊人的消息：著名的丑角拉米将做最后一次表演，届时将有三位女士作为特邀观众观看节目。她们是：老师玛丽、漂亮的苏联女人马琳娜和电影明星米娜。在圆形的马戏场里，拉米开始了他的表演。他今天扮演的是一个小丑病人，另外几名由小丑扮演的医生为他开刀并取了他“过于肥大”的心脏。其中一名医生一边取下心脏一边把它放到拉米面前：“它一直在不断地增长，总有一天它会吞食整个世界。”这番话让小丑病人兴奋异常，他同自己的心脏唱歌、跳舞，还将它抛入半空，结果，心脏从高空落下，摔成了一堆碎片。影片从此分成三部分，讲述了拉米和出现在他生命中的几个女人的故事。第一部分是他少年的经历；第二部分描述了他获得公认和喝彩的爱情；第三部是他的爱情及世界观的彻底破灭。
