◎简　　介　

The lure of  rail travel has  always had a  romantic air, however
          behind the  scenes of  the great  railways there  were many small
          narrow gauge  railways around  the world  with their  own form of
          gritty romance.  Since the  early 1800s,  these tiny  trains have
          traversed impossible terrain to link remote settlements with main
          cities. This series  of programs encapsulates  all of the  spirit
          that is associated with the great little trains of the world.

          Lying 40 kms  east of Melbourne  in the scenic  Dandenong Ranges,
          Puffing Billy is a genuine relic of the great steam age, built to
          serve at the turn of the century, and still running regularly  in
          the  mountain district  between Belgrave  and Gembook.  The sole
          survivor of four experimental  lines used to develop  rural areas
          in the  early 1900s,  and this  endearing film  shows how Puffing
          Billy has now become a major tourist attraction, and how hundreds
          of dedicated volunteers maintain its operation.
